The Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiological Modelling Project

Commencing in late 2007, this project arises from an ARC-Linkage Grant with industry partner Sanofi-Aventis and the International Diabetes Institute (IDI). Cardiovascular diseases are the most expensive group of diseases in Australia. With Australia’s ageing (and increasingly overweight) population, the burden of cardiovascular disease and associated chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes will be further magnified. The Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiological Modelling Project aims to utilise innovative statistical modelling techniques developed by CCRE researchers and will bring together existing and soon-to-be-released data sources from both industry- and publicly-funded research to facilitate a detailed analysis of the future risk of cardiovascular disease in Australia, and to develop methods for economic evaluation of disease management strategies which are specific to Australia’s health system framework.
